At least 30 people have died as a result of two barrel bomb attacks today (June 16, 2014) on Aleppo in northern Syria, the Euro News website reports.
According to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, helicopters dropped the improvised explosives in the al-Sukkari neighborhood.
At least one woman and two children were among the dead. With the large number of people seriously injured in the attack, the death toll is expected to rise.
Western powers have condemned the use of barrel bombs -- which often contain illegal deadly chemicals -- as a war crime, but the government continues to use them during Syria's civil war.
