The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will meet Pope Francis on June 16 in Rome to discuss the joint modern slavery and human trafficking initiative the two launched on March 17, 2014, the Vatican Insider website reports today (June 14, 2014).
In March, a group of religious leaders signed a joint declaration inaugurating the Global Freedom Network (GFN).
According to the signatories, a "joint effort" is needed to put an end to "the physical, economic, and sexual exploitation of men, women, and children" which "condemns 30 million people to dehumanization and degradation."
During his stay, the Archbishop of Canterbury will visit the Anglican Center in Rome and hear about the new international Anglican Roman Catholic Commission on Unity and Mission website, which will be launched at this time.
