Separatists Fighting in Ukraine Take Heavy Losses; Russia Moves Its Troops to Ukraine Border Again

Intense fighting broke out in Eastern Ukraine today (June 19, 2014), with separatists saying they were outgunned and taking heavy losses, according to the Newser website.

"We beat off the first attack and destroyed one tank," said a separatist. "But it is difficult to take on 20 tanks."

Government forces said the fighting broke out when rebels refused to lay down their weapons and observe the ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Russia has moved many of its troops back to the Ukraine border, according to NATO. This is believed to have been sparked by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's announcement that he would sign a pivotal association agreement with the EU (European Union) on June 27.
