Security forces in Shiraz, Iran raided a private home and arrested seven Christians for holding a prayer meeting, the Christian Broadcast Network website reports today (October 21, 2012).
Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) said Iranian authorities are carrying out a campaign of harassment against Christians of all denominations.
Meanwhile, five Christians detained in a raid eight months ago are now facing trial. Their alleged crimes include "propagation against the Islamic regime" and "defaming Islamic holy figures through Christian evangelizing."
"There appears to be an increasing tendency by the Iranian authorities to characterize legitimate religious activities as crimes against the state," said CSW Chief Executive Mervyn Thomas. He added, "In reality, people are being harassed merely on account of their faith."
