The Life in Italy website reports today (November 26, 2010) that Pope Benedict XVI has set up a foundation aimed at fostering research on theology and encouraging studies on his own thinking.
The new foundation will be headed by Cardinal Camillo Ruini, who said today that the pope's thought could be "understood and enjoyed even by those who are not theologians."
The body will also assign prizes to those who distinguish themselves in theological studies.
"In 2011 we are hoping to award what might be called a Nobel Prize in theology," Ruini said.
