Death Toll from Iraqi Church Siege Now Up to 52; 67 Churchgoers Wounded by Al Qaida Terrorists

The death toll from yesterday's (October 31, 2010) church hostage crisis in Iraq shot up to 52 today, while the number of people wounded rose to 67, according to the Christian Post website.

An explosion occurred at Our Lady of Salvation Church in Baghdad as security officers stormed the church around 9 p.m. to bring an end to the four-hour standoff.

The 10 or so militants had stormed the church around 5 p.m. wearing suicide vests, after attacking the Baghdad Stock Market in the central part of the Iraqi capital earlier in the day.

About 120 churchgoers were taken hostage by the al Qaida-linked terrorists as they were holding service Sunday.

Across Iraq, security forces were alerted to new threats against Christians.
