Bishop Peter Broadbent, 58, who made offensive comments on the Internet about Prince William and Kate Middleton, has been suspended, the New York Daily News website reports today (November 23, 2010).
Broadbent posted his remarks last weekend on Twitter and Facebook in which he compared the royal couple to "shallow celebrities" whose marriage would last only "seven years."
"I was appalled by the Bishop of Willesden's comments about the forthcoming royal marriage," said the Bishop of London, Richard Chartres, who is Broadbent's immediate superior.
"I have asked him to withdraw from public ministry until further notice," he added.

Anglican bishops who deny fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith are tolerated; those who diss the royal family are not.
