The Los Angeles Board of Supervisors has approved a motion declaring a countywide state of emergency on homelessness, the Los Angeles Times website reports today (Jan. 11, 2023).
The declaration aims to speed up the time it takes to provide services to the tens of thousands of people sleeping on the streets.
The move follows similar declarations approved last month by the cities of Los Angeles and Long Beach, as officials step up efforts to address the crisis. Some 69,000 homeless people are believed to be living in Los Angeles County.
