The world's population reached a record 8 billion people on Nov. 15, according to estimates from the United Nations, the Washington Post website reports today (November 17, 2022).
"Demography affects almost everything," said William Frey, an American demographer and senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.
More young people will require more schools; a growing elderly population will need an expanded safety net, and a young workforce to care for them; aging countries may need to reassess their immigration policies.
