A federal judge in Texas has struck down President Joe Biden's student debt relief plan to forgive up to $20,000 in federal loans held by tens of millions of college borrowers, calling it unconstitutional, the Worthy News website reports today (November 15, 2022).
Judge Mark Pittman of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas issued his 26-page ruling on Nov. 10 that said the program was "an unconstitutional exercise of Congress's legislative power and must be vacated."
A message on the government's student relief page now reads "courts have issued orders blocking our student debt relief program. As a result, at this time, we are not accepting applications. We are seeking to overturn those orders."
