U.K. Supreme Court: Scotland Cannot Get Its Ind.; Needs Consent of British Govt. to Become Ind.

The U.K. Supreme Court ruled on  Nov. 23 that Scotland does not have the power to hold a new referendum on independence without the consent of the British government, the Worthy News website reports today (November 25, 2022).

The ruling is a setback for the Scottish government's campaign to break away from the United Kingdom.

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said she would respect the ruling but continue to fight for independence, saying Scotland's "democratic right to choose  our future" was at stake.
