Israeli's recent agreement to establish diplomatic ties with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) marks a weak moment in its relation with Arab countries and hinders a quest for Mideast peace, the Fox News website reports today (August 15, 2020).
The UAE decided to agree to diplomatic ties with Israel by taking Israel's planned annexation of parts of the occupied West Bank off the table.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the plan to stop the annexation was only "temporary."
From the Palestinian perspective, the UAE not only failed to stop annexation, but also undermined an Arab view that recognition of Israel only come in return for significant Israeli concessions in peace talks.
