Bosnian Court Convicts 1st Woman of War Crimes; Muslim Woman Admitted Killing 26 People in 1993

The Europe News website reports today (May 2, 2012) that a Bosnian court -- for the first time -- has found a woman guilty of war crimes, as a Muslim woman was convicted of the killing of Croatian civilians and service personnel during the 1992-1995 Bosnian War.

The Sarajevo War Crimes Tribunal condemned Rasema Handanovic -- a former member of the Muslim Forces of Bosnia -- to five and a half years' imprisonment.

She was able to attain a reduced sentence by collaborating with the court.

Handanovic, 39, confessed to the court how she had killed 18 Croatian civilian and eight military prisoners in the village of Trusina (Herzegovina) in April 1993.
