W. Hollywood Passes First US Ban on Sale of Fur; Felt Sorry for Animals That Are Inhumanely Killed

Putting animal rights over fashion and its own vibrant shopping scene, West Hollywood's leaders gave final approval today (November 8, 2011) to a first-in-the-nation ban on the sale of fur clothing within city limits, according to the Reuters website.

The five-member city council of the tiny municipality -- wedged between Beverly Hills and Hollywood -- voted 3 to 1 with one abstention to approve the ordinance.

The fur ban takes effect in 2013.

The ban was approved as a result of supporters' arguments that furs are produced from animals that are inhumanely killed for their pelts.
