Boston Univ. Installs Foot Baths for Its Muslims; Mike Huckabee: Foot Baths Are "Un-American"

At its own initiative and cost, Boston University has installed foot baths for Muslims in its bathrooms and student union prayer rooms, The Boston Channel website reports today (November 30, 2011).

"We have to pray five time (every day), and every five times we have to wash," said student Reema Alashgar, a Muslim.

Student Center director Margot Veldivia said, "The students didn't ask for this, but rather we understood the tradition and how necessary it was in their daily lives."

Mike Huckabee -- former candidate for U.S. President and an ordained Southern Baptist minister -- said foot baths are "an accommodation we're making to one religion at the expense of the others." He also said they are "un-American."
