The Taliban claimed today (February 8, 2020) that five or six U.S. soldiers were killed after exchanging fire in Afghanistan, according to the Daily Star (British) website.
U.S. and Afghan troops were fired on while conducting an operation in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province, the U.S. military today confirmed.
U.S. military spokesman Col. Sonny Leggett said there were multiple casualties, but could not confirm numbers.
U.S. diplomats have been in talks with the Taliban for months to agree to a timetable for the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan in exchange for security guarantees.
