The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has filed for bankruptcy, as it faces some 300 lawsuits from men who say they were sexually abused as scouts, the NPR website reports today (February 18, 2020).
The organization says it will use the Chapter 11 process to create a trust to provide compensation to victims.
Scouting activities will continue throughout the process.
Jim Turley, BSA National Chair, sent a letter to victims of abuse, in which he stated: "I am outraged that individuals took advantage of our programs to commit these heinous acts."
