Despite outrage by many Republicans for betraying an ally that played a major role in defeating the Islamic State in Syria, the U.S. today (October 7, 2019) began pulling troops back from the northeast Syria border to allow for Turkish attacks on Kurdish-led forces long allied to Washington, according to the Reuters website.
The major U.S. policy shift was denounced as a "stab in the back" by Kurdish-led forces who have been Washington's most capable partner in fighting the Islamic State in Syria.
The forces accused the U.S. of reneging on an ally, warning it would have a "great negative impact" on the war against the terrorists.
But President Donald Trump said in several Tweets it was too costly to keep supporting Kurdish-led forces fighting the Islamic State and its "ridiculous Endless Wars."
