Every day, 137 women across the world are killed by a family member or partner, according to new data released by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Euro News website reports today (November 26, 2018).
A total of 87,000 women were intentionally killed in 2017.
Of that number, 30,000 were killed by an intimate partner, "making the home the most likely place for a woman to be killed," UNODC said.
The UN data found that the largest number of women killed by intimate partners and family members was in Asia (20,000). In Europe, 3,000 women were killed by a partner or family member that same year.
