A rural Indiana school district is expected this month to join a growing number of districts nationwide to provide firearms to teachers, the UPI website reports today (September 13, 2018).
Jay Schools in Portland, Indiana has purchased firearms, installed biometric safes in its buildings, and trained an "undisclosed" number of teachers and staff.
The school board is expected to formally adopt the policy later this month.
Many states have moved to improve school security after a former student stormed into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on February 14 and shot 17 people to death.
