A Jewish congregation in Carmel, Indiana said today (July 29, 2018) that a building on its property was vandalized with a swastika and Iron Crosses two nights ago, the Times of Israel website reports.
The Iron Cross was a German military medal which had been adopted as a symbol by neo-Nazis and white supremacists.
The Shaarey Tefilla Temple said on Facebook that religious services had not been affected by the attack, and that the incident had been reported to the police.
Indiana -- one of just five states without a hate crimes law -- has seen a rapid increase in bias crimes in recent years. The Southern Poverty Law Center reports there are 26 active hate groups in the state.
