Israel shot down a Syrian Sukhoi fighter jet today (July 24, 2018) after the aircraft infiltrated Israeli airspace while flying over the Golan Heights, according to the Fox News website.
The jet flew about 1.2 miles into Israeli airspace before it was hit by a pair of Patriot missiles, the Israel Defense Forces said.
It is unclear what happened to the pilots.
Today's incident is the first downing of a Syrian jet since a U.S. Navy F-18 Super Hornet shot one down over Syria in June 2017 after the Syrian plane fired on U.S.-backed Syrian rebel forces.
