A couple is being investigated in France for calling their son "Jihad," the Euro News website reports today (October 23, 2017).
The boy was born in August in the city of Toulouse.
French law allows parents freedom to choose any name which is not considered harmful to their child, or that infringes on the rights of third parties.
While the Arabic term "jihad" is usually associated in Western discourse with Islamic terrorism, the name translates to "an effort to achieve good," a Muslim cleric in Toulouse said.
