The meeting was held in Moscow between Kirill and Father Ioan Sauca, acting general secretary of the WCC, on October 17 at the patriarchal residence in Daniel's Monastery in Moscow.

According to the WCC, during the meeting the "serious concerns" of some WCC members were discussed, and Kirill was asked to explain his "theological position on the issue of holy war, and the meaning of metaphysical war."
