New Orleans has overtaken St. Louis for the highest U.S. homicide rate, with murders more than double from pre-pandemic levels, the RT website reports today (September 18, 2022).
New Orleans, one of the most popular U.S. cities for tourism, has achieved an unwanted title: "America's Murder Capital."
The city's homicide rate of 52 per 100,000 residents as of last week surpassed the previous U.S. murder leader, St. Louis, where the rate was less than 45 per 100,000 so far this year.
