Pelosi Calls Meeting with Pope "Spiritual Honor;" Her Pro-Abortion Stance Angers Many US Bishops

Despite ongoing tensions between Nancy Pelosi and a portion of the U.S. Bishops' Conference over her pro-abortion stance, the Speaker of the House had a private audience with Pope Francis yesterday that she called "a spiritual personal and official honor," the Crux website reports today (October 10, 2021).

His Holiness's leadership is a source of joy and hope for Catholics and for all people, challenging each of us to good stewards of God's creation..." Pelosi said in a statement.

Pro-abortion Catholic politicians -- particularly President Joe Biden and Pelosi -- have been a frequent topic among U.S. bishops, with  a number of prelates advocating that they and others be barred from communion.
