Israel to Deny Its Forces a Break During Passover; Mideast Tensions Require Full Capacity of Military

The Blaze website reports today (March 29, 2012) that members of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will not be enjoying much time off -- as they usually do -- during Passover, because tensions in the Middle East have become extremely high in recent weeks.

Chief of Staff Benny Gantz has ordered that all IDF units cancel the break this year that is traditionally granted. Every unit will operate to its full capacity throughout Passover -- something that has not been done for many years.

This sudden decision -- made only a week before Passover begins -- comes amid rumors of an Israeli strike on Iran, in order to cripple its nearly-completed nuclear facilities.

The decision may also have been made to ensure that Israel is well-prepared to defend itself of an attack during Passover. It brings back memories of some 40 years ago, when Palestinians made an unprovoked and unexpected attack on an "off guard" Israel during the Jewish holiday, Yom Kippur.
