Gravestone of Adolf Hitler's Parents Taken Away; It Had Become a Shrine in Austria for Neo-Nazis

The Austrian Times website reports today (March 30, 2012) that the gravestone of Adolf Hitler's parents has been removed, because it had become a shrine for neo-Nazis.

Last year, a vase with the word "unvergessen" -- unforgotten -- was left on the grave, with one of the letters drawn as the double lightning flashes of the Nazi leader's dreaded SS (storm trooper) regiments.

Another visitor in 2009 hung a plaque on the grave, marked "120," indicating the 120 years since Hitler was born in 1889 in the Austrian village of Braunau am Inn.

Relatives of Alois Hitler and his wife Klara -- who died in 1903 and 1907 respectively -- agreed to the dissolution of the grave in St. Michael's Churchyard, authorities in Leonding, Austria said.
