Hundreds of Czechs Protest Chinese Rule of Tibet; Call for Freedom for Tibet Near Chinese Embassy

The Prague Daily Monitor website reports today (March 12, 2012) that some 200 people called for freedom and independence for Tibet outside the Chinese embassy in Prague on March 10 at a demonstration staged by Amnesty International (AI).

They pointed to human rights violation and to those who have burnt themselves to death recently in protest against Chinese rule.

More than 400 Czech town halls and regional offices fly the Tibetan flag as a sign of solidarity with Tibetan people.

The Chinese army invaded Tibet -- a predominantly Buddhist nation -- in October 1950. Since 1965, Tibet has been a Chinese autonomous region.
