U.S. President Donald Trump said today (September 8, 2019) he was canceling the peace talks with the Taliban leaders and the President of Afghanistan after a car bombing in Kabul yesterday killed one U.S. soldier and 11 others, according to the Euro News website.
Trump said the leaders were supposed to come to Camp David -- the country retreat of U.S. presidents -- for secret talks today.
The administration had been working on a peace settlement to end a war that has been going on for the past 18 years -- the longest war in American history.
Trump's decision to call off peace talks with the Taliban follows nine rounds of U.S. negotiations with the militant group.
