Two New York Rabbis Drown in Miami Rip Tide; Used Remote Beach to Avoid Half-Naked Women

Two New York City Hasidic rabbis -- who used an isolated beach in Miami, Florida to avoid having to see half-naked women -- drowned yesterday after being caught up in a powerful rip current, despite efforts by an off-duty cop who rushed to the scene to save them, the Times of Israel website reports today (May 18, 2016).

Rabbis Isaac Rosenberg, 67. and Chaim Parnes, 66, chose an isolated stretch of Haulover Beach -- located in Miami -- where they could bathe in the ocean while avoiding the sight of scantily-dressed women, a friend of the rabbis said. Women are allowed to be topless at Miami beaches.

Officer George Waisman -- an off-duty policeman -- heard a distress call and raced to the scene. He helped bring the rabbis to shore.

The two rabbis were then taken to the Aventura Hospital where they were pronounced dead. A third man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he is in stable condition.
