Portland, Oregon police are on the lookout for the perpetrators of an act of synagogue vandalism in the southwestern part of the city that took place early yesterday morning, the Jewish Press website reports today (October 15, 2015).
According to Rabbi Michael Kaplan of Congregation Ahavath Achim-Sephardic on Portland's Barbur Boulevard, a Nazi swastika had been spray-painted on the synagogue building's exterior, next to a misspelled Satanic slur about President Obama, declaring that "Oboma is 666."
Six hundred sixty-six appears in chapter 13 of the Book of Revelation of the Christian Bible, where it is called "number of the beast," a belligerent creature that appears in the book's apocalyptic vision.
Rabbi Kaplan said that after the graffiti had been discovered, around 7 am yesterday, a coat of paint was applied to cover it.
