Queen Elizabeth II -- still ailing from a hospitalization last week -- has lent her support to the gay movement by signing a historic new charter for civil rights, the RTT News website reports today (March 11, 2013).
The document -- which was signed in public earlier today -- calls for an end to "all forms of discrimination, whether rooted in gender, race, color, creed, political belief, or other grounds" in all 54 countries in the British Commonwealth (including 41 countries in which homosexuality is still considered a crime).
This is believed to be the first time the British monarch has shown her support for gay rights. The timing is significant, because Prince William and Kate Middleton's baby will soon be born. If the baby is a girl, she could become queen of England.
The 86-year-old queen was hospitalized last week for the first time in ten years to treat a bout of gastroenteritis.
