The U.S. Justice Dept. said that an 87-year-old Holocaust survivor was defrauded of his life savings by a Florida woman he met online, the WIN (World Israel News) website reports today (April 19, 2023).
The victim met the suspect, identified by the Justice Dept. as 36-year-old Peaches Stergo, on a dating website in early 2017.
Over the course of four years, authorities said, Stergo Bilked her victim of $2.8 million as part of a romance scam.Stergo then used the money to live a "life of luxury," said Damian Williams, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
