Va. School Board Slams Transgender Student Law; LGBT Law Lets Students Use Restroom They Want

A Virginia school board has defied a new state law requirement and voted down a proposal that would have forced schools to allow students to use the restroom and locker room they wish, the Christian Headlines website reports today (August 23, 2021).

The Newport News School Board opposed the proposal in a 5-1 vote on August 17 after hearing from both sides.

The new LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestite) law, passed by the Virginia legislature in 2020, requires that all public school districts adopt a policy permitting students who identify as transgender to use the restroom and locker room that matches their gender identity.
