EU: Number of Deaths in Gaza "Unacceptable;" Calls for a Ceasefire to Protect Civilians in Gaza

 The European Union's foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell said today (May 18, 2021) that the high number of civilian casualties, including women and children, in Gaza is "unacceptable," the Euro News website reports. 


After a meeting of EU's foreign ministers, he said that 26 out of 27 member nations agreed to a statement that includes: "the priority is immediate cessation of all violence, and implementation of a ceasefire in order to protect. civilians and to provide humanitarian access in Gaza."


Borrell said Hungary was the only nation that had not agreed to the statement.
