The U.S. launched airstrikes in Syria today (February 25, 2021), targeting military facilities near the Iraq border used by Iranian-backed militia groups, the LA Times website reports.
The Pentagon said the airstrikes were retaliation for a rocket attack in Iraq this month that killed one civilian contractor and wounded a U.S. service member and other coalition troops.
The airstrikes served as the first military action undertaken by the Biden administration.
