Single-Gender Groups Sue Harvard for Prejudice; U. Won't Let Students Hold Lead Roles on Clubs

Sororities, fraternities, and students sued Harvard University yesterday over a rule that punishes students in single-gender clubs from holding leadership positions on sports teams and campus groups, the Daily Caller website reports today (December 4, 2018).

The federal lawsuit calls into question "freedom from sex discrimination," while the state suit is over "right to free association and equal treatment based on sex."

The federal lawsuit argues the university must not dictate what kind of groups students can join.

Harvard's sanctions also ban students in single-gender clubs from receiving college endorsements for prestigious fellowships like the Rhodes Scholarships. Another discriminatory lawsuit against Harvard is currently being heard in court, in which Harvard has been charged against accepting Asian American students, while using lower admission criteria in accepting Black and Hispanic students.
