Turkey Set to Release Pastor Brunson from Prison; US to End Its Sanctions on Turkey for His Release

Long-imprisoned American pastor Andrew Brunson is set to be released from a Turkish prison this month -- something that Donald Trump has demanded for months -- the Free Beacon website reports today (October 11, 2018).

Ankara and Washington came to an agreement on the matter, and Brunson's charges will be dropped in a hearing tomorrow, NBC News reported. In return, the U.S. will end the recent sanctions it imposed against Turkey.

Brunson is an American citizen from North Carolina, who spent decades as a pastor of the Resurrection Church in Izmir, Turkey.

In 2016 he spent time in a Turkish prison and then was put under house arrest after accusations of aiding terrorist groups. Brunson and American officials deny the allegation.
