Trump Pulls Out of US Nuclear Pact with Russia; Says Russia Has Violated the Pact for Many Years

U.S. President Donald Trump said yesterday that he will pull the U.S. from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty because Russia has violated the agreement, the Times of Israel website reports today (October 21, 2018).

The 1987 pact, which helps protect the security of the U.S.and its allies in Europe and the Far East, prohibits the U.S. and Russia from possessing or test-flying ground-launched cruise missiles within a range of 300 to 3,400 miles.

"Russia has violated the agreement. They have been violating it for many years," Trump said.

He added, "And we're not going to let them violate a nuclear agreement and go out and do weapons and we're not allowed to."
