Poland Agrees to Law Denying Role in Holocaust; Law Allows 3 Years in Prison for Accusing Poland

In what can be viewed as a "slap in the face" to Israel and all Jews around the world, President Andrzej Duda of Poland signed a law today (February 6, 2018) that outlaws blaming Poland for crimes committed by Nazi Germany during the Holocaust, according to the World Israel News website.

The new law carries fines and prison sentences of up to three years for public statements that attribute the crimes of Nazi Germany to Poland. Nearly six million Jews were killed at extermination camps in Poland during World War II.

Israeli officials and Holocaust scholars said the law would allow Poland to whitewash the role of Poles who killed or denounced Jews during Nazi Germany's World War II occupation of Poland.

Malcolm Hoenlein, the executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, says Poland has made an "issue" out of its people's actions during the Holocaust and is denying the truth. He adds that many Poles were complicit in aiding the Nazis during World War II.
