One U.S. soldier was killed and four others wounded during a combat engagement in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar, the Reuters website reports today (January 2, 2017).
The incident took place yesterday in Achin, Nangarhar province, a U.S. military statement said.
Two of the wounded soldiers are being treated at a medical facility and are in stable condition.
Nangarhar -- which is on the Pakistan border -- has become a stronghold for the Islamic State (IS) terror group in Afghanistan.
