Trump: No Palestinian Funds Until Peace Talks; Says Recognition of Jerusalem Encourages Talks

Sitting next to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, U.S. President Donald Trump told the press that the U.S. would no longer transfer monetary aid to Palestinians unless they entered peace negotiations with Israel, the Times of Israel website reports today (January 26, 2018).

Trump said: "That money is not going to them unless they sit down and negotiate peace, because I can tell you that Israel does want to make peace, and they're going to have to want to make peace too..."

Netanyahu called Trump's Jerusalem recognition a "historic decision." He added it would advance the prospects for a peace agreement.

Trump said his decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital promotes the peace process to begin. "We took Jerusalem off the table, so we don't have to talk about it anymore. They never got past Jerusalem."
