Erdogan Warns Israel on Supporting Kurd Ind.; Turkey Pres.Says Support Mars Diplomatic Ties

Following a referendum vote in Iraq in which 92 percent of the voters called for an independent Kurdish state, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Israel should "review" its support for Iraqi Kurdish independence, the Times of Israel website reports today (September 27, 2017).

Warning Israel that its support for an Iraqi Kurdish state could negatively affect diplomatic relations between Ankara and Jerusalem, Erdogan indicated that Israel's failure to end its support would sabotage prospective agreements between Turkey and Israel.

Some Turkish nationalists have claimed the Kurdish independence vote is meant to create a "second Israel."

Also, Turkish media has claimed that Israel was planning to repatriate Israeli Jews of Kurdistan origin to Kurdistan after the referendum.
