Erdogan Protesters Beaten during NY Speech; Many Shouted "Terrorist" at Turkey's Dictator

Violence erupted at a New York hotel after protesters heckled a speech by Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with chants of "terrorist," the Yahoo News website reports today (September 23, 2017).

"You're a terrorist, get out of my country," one protester shouted at Erdogan before he was punched and dragged away. Erdogan is viewed as a dictator who has ended freedom of the press in Turkey and has jailed thousands of his opponents without a trial.

In New York City to attend United Nations meetings, Erdogan was addressing supporters in Turkish at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square when he was interrupted by several demonstrators.

It is not clear if the men in suits doing the pushing and punching were pro-Erdogan attendees or his bodyguards.
