Boko Haram Calls for a Deal with Nigeria Govt.; Will Release Kidnapped Schoolgirls, No Penalty

Islamic extremist militants Boko Haram -- who have killed more than 2,600 people in Nigeria -- want to broker a deal with the government to release the remaining kidnapped Chibook schoolgirls in return for escaping execution, the IB (International Business) Times website reports today (May 22, 2016).

Over 200 schoolgirls were seized from a school in Chibook two years ago and have never been traced or found. It is believed only a third of the girls remain alive.

Senior members of the Islamic terrorist group told the Nigerian newspaper Leadership on May 20 that it was prepared to negotiate a surrender and release the hostages on the condition they would not be betrayed by the government or killed for giving up their arms.

"We want to surrender because things are getting worse," said Amir Muhammad Abdullahi, who is reportedly Boko Haram's second in command. He added that no side was winning the battle and that only a third of the girls remained as "the rest have been martyred."
