Hungarian Govt. Criticized for WW II Monument; Protesters Say It Eases Hungary's Holocaust Role

A monument marking the 70th anniversary of the Nazi occupation of Hungary is drawing protests in Budapest, the Euro News website reports today (August 6, 2014).

Protesters say the monument is designed to downplay Hungary's role in the Holocaust.

Forums and concerts are being held as Jewish and civil rights groups hope Hungary's new government will destroy it.

Yesterday, some 100 police secured the site as a punk protest band performed.
