The U.S. estimates that Russia has lost up to 80,000 troops in Ukraine since its invasion of that country began in February, the Washington Post website reports today (August 9, 2022).
On July 20, the CIA said Russia had suffered 60,000 casualties in Ukraine since widening its war there February 24.
Russia classifies military deaths as stste secrets, even in times of peace.
