The Taliban launched a large-scale attack on Kunduz, one of Afghanistan's main cities, killing at least three civilians and wounding more than 70 others, even as the insurgent group continued negotiations with the U.S. on ending America's longest war, the Yahoo News website reports today (August 31, 2019).
The militants now control or hold sway over about half of the country.
A suicide bomber detonated his explosives at the main intersection in Kunduz in today's attack.
Such attacks are seen as strengthening the Taliban's negotiating position.
