The Bishops of Latin America and the Caribbean have expressed their deep concern for destructive fires burning the world's forests, the Independent Catholic News website reports today (August 24, 2019).
The seriousness of the fires raging Alaska, Siberia, Greenland, the Canary Islands, and "in particular, the Amazon" is "of planetary proportions,"say the Bishops.
The Amazon-- the world's largest rainforest -- has been burning for over two weeks.
The Bishops urge the governments of the Amazon countries, the U.S., and the international community to help "save the lungs of the world."
